Bridal Shower
I went back to some old stamp sets to make this card. Most of the images come from the “Rain or Shine” stamp set. However, I did find a “stray” engagement ring stamp in my collection. It was given to me for being a participant at a card making event over 10 years ago. It was old when I got it and all I know is it was from a Stampin’ Up stamp set. I am very lucky as my husband has built me a database in which I have incorporated all of my stamps. This allows me to search on keywords and find the perfect stamp for a particular design.
In my last design, I used the flying heart die, and I had left over hearts from that design. I thought it would be a cool look to replace rain with the falling gold hearts. I did decide to add some red and pink hearts for more interest. The pink hearts are cut from the glitter foam adding additional dimension. The final touch was adding the crystal drops over the diamond to make it look like a real gem. (This is hard to see in the photo but looks amazing in person).
This card is a 5.5” by 4.25” card (A2). The list of products used on this card are listed at the end of the page.
Step by Step Instructions for making this Card.
Make the Card Base
1. Make the card base with Bubble Bath Card Stock for an A2 card. (See Card Basics).
There are 6 panels that need to be cut for this card – four matting panel, a focal panel and the and internal panel.
Cut the Card Panels
2. Cut Red Metallic cardstock into a 5 ¼” x 4” rectangle.
3. Cut out two (2) Gold Metallic cardstock into a 5 1/8” x 3 7/8” rectangle. One for the front of the card, the other for the interior of the card
4. Cut Pink Glitter Foam sheet into a 5” x 3 ¾” rectangle
5. Cut Focal panel out of white cardstock into a 4 1/8” x 3 5/8” rectangle.
6. Cut the interior panel out of white cardstock into a 5” x 3 ¾”.
Cut out raining hearts
7. To make the raining heart I used the flying heart die and cut out the hearts from the center of each of the matting panels (Red, Gold, and Pink).
Create the focal image
8. Stamp the engagement ring on the center of the focal panel.
9. Use tape to cover the bottom portion of the ring that the handle will cross.
10. Stamp the umbrella above the ring with real red ink.
11. Stamp the handle from umbrella over the ring with black ink.
12 Remove tape from ring. Use the gold signo pen to fill in the ring’s band.
13. Stamp Bridal Shower in Real Red ink under the umbrella/ring image.
Create the clouds on the focal imagel
To create the cloud background, take a paper-towel and tear a jagged edge. Then place the paper towel onto the cardstock. Using a dauber, burnish the cloud colors across the edge. Changing colors and position of the paper towel. Be careful to keep the clouds image in the background. The result is a soft cloudy background.
14. For this card I used Misty Moonlight, Highland Heather, and Boho Blue to color the clouds.
Glue hearts
15. For the illusion of showers. Glue the hearts above the umbrella across the top. From the umbrella down just glue the heart on each side. This provide an illusion that the umbrella is protecting the ring from the getting “wet”. The hearts should be glued in different positions to give a falling impression.
Make the Interior
The person who ordered this card wanted a sentiment to say, “Welcome to the family”. I didn’t have a stamp with that that sentiment, so I used my computer to print out that sentiment on the cardstock. I usually don’t like to use the computer to make a card but sometimes it is necessary.
16. Using a word processor, I selected a fancy font and printed “Welcome to the Family!” on the bottom of the white interior cardstock panel.
17. Glue the gold panel onto the interior of the card.
18. Glue the white panel with the welcome sentiment onto the gold panel.
19. Glue the pink flying heart frame on the left-hand interior panel of the card.
Assemble card
20. Glue the Red Frame Panel onto the center of the card front.
21. Glue the Gold Frame Panel onto the center of the Red Frame on the card front.
22. Glue the Pink Glitter Foam panel onto the center of the Gold Frame on the card front
23. Glue the Focal panel onto the center of the pink glitter foam panel on the card front.
